I just discovered a marvellous book called Garden&Cosmos by publishers Sackler! It has been on display oat the British Museum in 2009. It reveals remarkable paintings from the Marwar Court, between the 17th and 18th century in North India. The book coveys the four major movements: the mergence of the Marwar School, the maturation of Marwar idiom, the creation of monumental manuscript genre to convey Vasihnava devotionalism and the minimal style inspired by Yoga-Hatha metaphysics.
These paintings also show the yearning of a kingdom located in the desert for idyllic landscapes and luscious gardens of shimmering colours and unusual spaciousness.
We felt very inspired by these paintings and have used some of their incredible color combinations for our new collection:)
